Guide to Silver Award
So, how is your Silver Award different to Bronze? Well, the main difference is the time span. Silver takes place over a minimum of six months.
Move
six months
Learn
Three or six months
Give
Three or six months
Choose one three month challenge and one six month challenge

Protect
One-off action
or series of events
Explore
Three days
Two nights
With Silver, you have a choice to either expand on your Bronze challenges if you started with Bronze, or to choose something completely new.

If you choose to expand on your Bronze we expect to see a greater level of difficulty or complexity. If you decide to take on a completely new challenge for Silver, we’d like to see you push yourself further, tackling something that requires more effort than your Bronze.
After all, we want you to feel like you’ve really achieved something at the end!

For Give – you might choose to continue as a volunteer with the same organisation but perhaps you take on a new role or additional responsibility.

For your Protect challenge, we want to see something more impactful than your Bronze. It may still be a one off event, but the reach, influence or outcome should be greater.

Explore at Silver level is definitely going to require more planning and possibly more skill. This is a three day, two night mini expedition – human powered wherever possible. If you feel you don’t have the confidence or knowledge to do this just yet, you could incorporate gathering new skills into your Learn element.
Alternatively, you might want to join a course – such as the ones our recommended providers run. Please note that the outdoor skills weekend run by Discover Your Outdoors would not fulfil your Silver Explore challenge element but it would give you the skills to plan your own.

You will have access to a 1-2-1 chat with an award coach as you develop you challenge plans.
